Lithology and Thickness
The Badaojiang Formation is composed of light gray clastic limestone and stromatolite-bearing limestone, which is subdivided into three lithological members. Lower member is composed of light gray medium- to thick-bedded algal limestone and stromatolite-bearing limestone, intercalated with three beds of chert. Middle member is gray-white thick-bedded limestone, stromatolite-bearing limestone. Upper member is light gray thick-bedded stromatolite-bearing limestone. The total thickness varies from 289 m to 586 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The lowermost part conformably overlies the Wanlong Fm with a layer of siliceous limestone.
Upper contact
The upper part is characterized by thick-bedded stromatolite-bearing limestone that is conformably below the overlying Qinggouzi Fm.
Regional extent
Southeast Jilin. The Badaojiang Fm is mainly distributed in the basin of Hunjiang river, Yalu and Santong river.
